Ms. Dummett is a proud graduate of the University of Guyana where she passed her LLB in the top 2% of her class in 2002, and thereafter distinguished herself at the Hugh Wooding Law School graduating in 2006, continuing her balanced approach to scholarship while participating in numerous extra curricular activities. Nicosie’s well rounded background was of interest to the Inter-American Development Bank in Washington DC, on her first application to its highly selective and competitive internship programme in 2001, she was accepted. This was Ms. Dummett’s first foray into the world of work and the experience at IDB taught her many life skills and most importantly the ability to be flexible in a dynamic cosmopolitan work environment. After working at the IADB, Nicosie completed her LLB in 2002 and was employed with the most venerable legal practice in Guyana, Messrs. Cameron and Shepherd. While there Nicosie was responsible for the transformation of their filing system and was also given the opportunity to observe first hand how these Attorneys were able to meet and exceed their client’s expectations. Nicosie was employed with Mr. Devesh Maharaj Attorneys-at-Law, while in Trinidad and Tobago, and had the privilege of assisting as a Research Assistant with the Piarco Airport Enquiry and provided invaluable assistance which led to a re-thinking of the role of the judiciary vis-à -vis a judicial code of ethics. In her quest to give back Nicosie was employed as a Legal Officer, at the Legal Aid and Counselling Clinic in Grenada, where she worked under the guidance of the Head of the LACC and Attorney-at-Law Mrs. Jacqueline Sealy-Burke. Her work was extensively in Family Law, doing divorces, adoptions, conveyancing, attended Court and litigated, land disputes in addition to many other areas. Nicosie’s work in Grenada was particularly gratifying, and she went beyond the call of duty as it involved a heavy social component, working with victims and perpetrators of domestic violence. Nicosie applied for and obtained numerous protection orders for victims and was involved in their “Man to Man†programme and “Woman to Woman†programme assisting the participants learn how to detect abuse and how to break the cycle. She also participated in their social outreach programmes in Carriacou, bringing attention to the issues of domestic violence island wide.
